Reference unit
Insured employees (FTE)
Because insurers do not collect data on employees and the number can vary during the year, this is an approximate figure. The reported number of employees (FTE) is based on the Employment Statistics as of 31 December.
Total wage bill (in CHF million)
The maximum assessment basis of the insured total wage bill was increased from CHF 126 000 to CHF 148 200 in 2017, which resulted in an above-average increase in the total wage bill.
Net premium rate (in ‰)
Until 2006, the premium rate was fixed in advance for the duration of a three-year rate period. Since amendment of the law in 2007, shorter or longer rate periods have also been possible. Adjustments are made at the request of insurers and after approval by the Government. The premium rates are average values and deviate from the actual rates depending on the risk class and level.
Class of insurance
Occupational accident insurance
Occupational accident insurance (OAI): The number of insured employees (FTE) corresponds to the year-end figure of the Employment Statistics as of 31 December.
Non-occupational accident insurance
Non-occupational accident insurance (NOAI): Calculation based on the number of employees (OAI) and the ratio of the total wage bills of NOAI and OAI.
Voluntary insurance
Voluntary insurance (VI): The number of insured employees (FTE) is not known and cannot be estimated with sufficient accuracy.
